Thanksgiving: 46 million turkeys at the Harlow Gallery?
Attention artists and animal lovers!
During Thanksgiving week, the Harlow Gallery is hosting Cheryl Miller's 46 Million Turkeys project.
Miller, an artist based in Augusta, is exhibiting 15 years of turkey portraits. Miller invites the public to help her artistically create 46 million turkeys: the number of birds that will be consumed in the United States over the Thanksgiving holiday. You do not have to be an artist to participate.
Mail your turkey drawings, doodles, fiber art, prints, paintings, caricatures, cut-outs, sketches or sculptures, plus the official entry form, and an optional donation of $1. (50 cents will support this project at the nonprofit Harlow Gallery and 50 cents will be donated to Peace Ridge Sanctuary in Penobscot, at the end of the project.) Send to: 46 Million Turkeys, Harlow Gallery, 160 Water Street, Hallowell, ME 04347.
For complete guidelines, entry form and information, visit www.46millionturkeys.com.
All of the turkeys submitted will be included in the week-long exhibition at the Harlow Gallery at 160 Water Street in Hallowell, Monday, Nov. 25 through Saturday, Nov. 30. Gallery visitors will have the opportunity to create their own turkeys during the exhibition.
The public is invited to meet the artist and witness the final turkey count at a closing reception on November 30 from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Harlow Gallery will be open special hours for this event: Monday through Thursday noon to 6 p.m. (yes we'll be open on Thanksgiving), and Friday and Saturday noon to 8 p.m.
The Harlow Gallery is a 501(c)3 nonprofit membership based art gallery founded in 1963. The Harlow Gallery has been connecting art, artists and community in downtown historic Hallowell, Maine for half a century.
