Three things
Great news for area fishermen. A plan and construction contract for building Carter’s Wharf on Atlantic Avenue, Boothbay Harbor has been announced. It has been in the planning stage for a little over five years when the Boothbay Region Maritime Foundation (BRMF) took over ownership of the former Sea Pier. Once again. As explained on BRMF’s website, “Permits include replacement of the existing wharf, a 64x28 Bait Storage & Lobster Tank Building, a 7.9’ x 16’ fuel tank on top of Carter's Wharf and a series of finger floats.” It will be great to see that section of town busy with boats again.

Here’s hoping that the Meals on Wheels program in the Boothbay region receives donations and volunteer drivers. The half-century old program needs some help (read Jane Carpenter’s article online or in this week’s issue). It is a local program that is necessary for those who are homebound or are unable to cook for themselves.

Hard to believe that we have already used up a week of August. Soon fall sports in area schools will begin and the summer temperatures will be cooler (we hope!). Enjoy what August brings – more gatherings, boat rides, or whatever summer event you have planned – hopefully the rest of August’s weekends (after this upcoming one) are sunny and dry.
