Tobin Burnham arrested for passing counterfeit bills
This morning, Thursday, Sept. 12, members of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Damariscotta Police Department and United States Secret Service executed a search warrant on Moxie Cove Road in Round Pond at the residence of Tobin Burnham, age 32.
The warrant and arrest were a result of an ongoing investigation into the passing of numerous counterfeit bills (U.S. currency) in the towns of Damariscotta, Newcastle, and Waldoboro.
Most of the counterfeit bills passed were $20 denominations, with a few $5 bills also passed.
The investigation began after Damariscotta PD, Waldoboro PD and the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office received complaints from local businesses and financial institutions who had received the counterfeit bills.
Burnham was arrested on the Class B charge of Aggravated Forgery and transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
The investigation continues and anyone with information concerning this investigation is asked to contact Detective Scott Hayden of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office at 207-882-7332 or shayden@co.lincoln.me.us.
