Tractor safety course offered in Union
The University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Knox-Lincoln Farm Bureau and Union Farm Equipment will conduct a tractor safety course beginning Wednesday, April 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Union Farm Equipment on Route 17. The registration deadline is March 26.
Classes will continue on successive Wednesdays through April 30. A written exam and tractor driving test will be held Saturday, May 3 at 9 a.m. at Union Farm Equipment. The course is free; however, there is a $10 charge for the course book.
This course is targeted for those 13 years of age or older and is required for 14- and 15-year-olds who plan to operate farm equipment for hire on farms other than their own. Participants will be taught how to safely handle tractors and equipment and minimize the chances of accidents. Those who successfully complete the written and road tests will be issued a Federal Certificate of Training. Adults are also welcome.
