Training offered for LakeSmart volunteers
LakeSmart is an educational program intended to protect the water quality of lakes and ponds by offering free evaluations and information to homeowners about best practices for managing their waterfront homes and yards to prevent harmful runoff.
The program depends on trained volunteers who are invited by homeowners to evaluate a property and then make recommendations and provide information if needed.
LakeSmart is administered by the Maine Lakes Society and locally co-coordinated by Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust and Midcoast Conservancy.
A training for new and returning volunteers will take place on Saturday June 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Midcoast Conservancy on Route 1 in Edgecomb. All materials and a continental breakfast will be provided. Participants should dress for the weather and bring a brown bag lunch. The training is free, but registration is required.
