Trump has subordinated respect for first responders
Dear Editor:
Why are people surprised? Why are they shocked? Donald Trump was clear throughout his campaign that he intended to pardon all the insurrectionists who stormed the U.S. Capital including those who engaged the men and women of law enforcement in medieval combat while chanting for public executions. A blanket pardon along with his nonsense justifications for it would be an integral part of his efforts to rewrite the history of that day.
And now he has done exactly what he said he would do. He has subordinated respect and support for all first responders to his strongman aspirations. He has shown, again, that he believes we should not be subject to the rule of law but to his decrees.
I call on Sen. King, Sen. Collins, Rep. Pingree, and Rep. Golden to publicly state to the people of Maine their positions on Trump’s words and actions regarding Jan. 6, 2021, and those involved in the events of that day. The people of Maine deserve to know where you stand.
