UPDATE, Monday afternoon: Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office has issued this latest press release with new details including names of those involved:

A 2016 GMC Penske cargo van driven by William Young, 55, of Topsham was traveling northbound on Route 1 in Woolwich when it crossed the centerline and struck a 1998 Subaru Forester traveling southbound on Route 1. The Forester was being driven by Barry L. Wyman, 57, of Woolwich. The Penske van then struck two other vehicles that had been traveling southbound behind Wyman’s vehicle, a 2005 Subaru driven by Dorothy McCarren, 40, of Woolwich and a 2014 Subaru Legacy being driven by Jacob Schwarz, 38, of Woolwich. There were no passengers in any of the vehicles. Wyman was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland and is listed in critical condition. The other three drivers were taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick and have since been treated and released. The crash remains under investigation and as of this writing we are still trying to determine why the Penske truck crossed the centerline. The crash is being investigated by Sagadahoc County Deputy Mark Anderson and is being reconstructed by Sagadahoc County Deputy Brian Carlton and the Maine State Police. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Bath Police Department, Woolwich Fire & Rescue, Bath Fire & Rescue and the West Bath Fire Department. Earlier press release: On July 15 at approximately 6:50 a.m., Sagadahoc County sheriff's deputies responded to a four-car motor vehicle crash on Route 1 in Woolwich near the Taste of Maine. The crash involved a Penske rental truck and three other cars. Initial indications are that the Penske truck crossed the center line, into oncoming traffic, as it traveled northbound on Route 1.

Current information is one person was critically injured and the other three drivers were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

More information will be made available later today. This area of Route 1 will be closed until around 10 a.m. as investigators work the scene. Route 1 traffic is backed up, but it is being diverted to Middle and Nequasset roads to allow for passage both north and southbound. The crash remains under investigation and is being reconstructed by Deputy Brian Carlton of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Bath Police Department, Woolwich Fire & Rescue, and Bath Fire & Rescue. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information on it is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 443-9711.

A multi-vehicle crash with injuries has closed Route 1 in Woolwich near the Taste of Maine until about 10 a.m. today, Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Traffic is being diverted to Middle Road, a dispatcher confirmed.
