Veggies to Table receives generous matching gift to support year-end fundraising goals
Veggies to Table, a non-profit grow-to-donate vegetable and flower farm in Newcastle, has received a matching gift that will double the impact of any donation made before Dec. 24. Veggies to Table is $20,000 away from reaching their year-end goal to raise $100,000, which will support the organization’s growth over the next year and fight local hunger.
1 in 5 children and 1 in 7 adults go hungry daily in Maine:
$50 feeds a child for a week
$100 feeds an adult for a week
$250 feeds a child for five weeks
$500 feeds a couple for three weeks
$1,250 feeds a family of four for a month
$2,500 feeds a family of four for two months
$10,000 feeds a single parent and two children for a year
Everything Veggies to Table grows, they donate in collaboration with 35+ local partners, including food pantries, schools, summer lunch programs and hospitals—filling hungry stomachs and lifting spirits along the way.
Kamala Grohman recently joined the Veggies to Table administrative team. Kamala has a wealth of experience in Administration and Development, and her diverse career has encompassed working for a variety of non-profit organizations and schools, including the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA), Center for Teaching and Learning, and Sheepscot Valley Children’s House.
Veggies to Table attended Community Night at Gardens Aglow at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens last month and raffled off some fun prizes. Winners included Sue Norton (apron), Kiki Hussian (bowls and hat), and Jen Fox (merch). “We serve many organizations on the peninsula, so it’s important for us to have a presence at Community Night to introduce ourselves to those who have not yet heard about the work we do fighting local hunger,” said Veggies to Table Executive Director Erica Berman. “As food insecurity is on the rise, community support will be key to success.”
A wreath-making class to benefit Veggies to Table, hosted by Sofia Doe of Perception Greenspace, was held on Dec. 7. The chilly December weather prompted a move from the greenhouse to the warm farmhouse, where participants created beautiful half-wreaths using greenery and materials foraged right here on the farm.
