'Visions of the River' ready to go
After more than 10 months of planning, the Damariscotta River Association’s (DRA) 40th anniversary celebration art show is ready to open.
Twenty-four area artists, who are also DRA members, are participating in this one-of-a-kind show entitled “Visions of the River.”
Many of the artists express personal connections to the river. Local artist Jane Dahmen comments: “… I can walk out my back door into a field on the river … By painting large, I am attempting to create an environment into which the viewer can enter.”
One of Dahmen's oil paintings, “Teel Island, Maine” once hung in the White House and is part of George H.W. and Barbara Bush’s collection.
“Though the Damariscotta River is constantly changing, it is a steady link to past Ice Ages and the world beyond our personal lifetimes,” artist Maggy Mason said. “Tell me who has not felt this deep sense of connection when they walk along its banks, hear the lapping waves, breathe in salted air, or take in the evolving light dancing on its surface from sunrise to moonset.”
The DRA encourages all community members to visit the show at some time during the week of Saturday, August 10 through Saturday, August 17.
The show is being presented at DRA Round Top Farm in the Farmhouse, adjacent to the winter ice rink location.
For 40 years the DRA's focus is preserving and protecting the Damariscotta River environs. For more information, call 207-563-1393.
