Warlick named Damariscotta police chief
Damariscotta selectmen on July 19 confirmed acting Police Chief Jason Warlick as permanent chief. He had been acting chief since March 3, but had been running the department's day-to-day operations since Ron Young was placed on administrative leave in January. Young resigned in March.
Town Manager Matt Lutkus had appointed Warlick as chief on July 14; the appointment had to be confirmed at the next board meeting.
Lutkus said Warlick had demonstrated excellence as an officer, a sergeant and as acting chief, and he expected a long relationship with Warlick as head of the force. Warlick was appointed to a three-year term, which is customary.
Lutkus was also reappointed town manager for a two-year term ending June 30, 2019.
Ronald Ranes was appointed to the planning advisory committee. The committee agreed to look at all commercial areas of the town in their mission statement, including the C1 and C2 zones.
Damariscotta agreed to hire Stone Age for work on the stone wall at Walpole Cemetery. Last year, the company replaced the stone arch. This year, it will do the north flank of the stone wall for $10,500.
The town also agreed to move forward with replacing street name signs to the federally mandated 911-visible signs. Town-owned roads will contain a small town seal, but private roads will not have the seal. The three-year project is entering its second year. The town also accepted the bid by Colby and Gale for fuel oil and propane, with a price cap plan.
Lutkus reminded the public that the time and day of Board of Selectmen meetings will change as of the next meeting. The new meeting days are the first and third Tuesdays of the month, at 5:30 p.m., which makes the next meeting Aug. 1.
