Waterfront Committee to connect policies, ordinances
The Wiscasset Waterfront Committee decided Aug. 8 to spend the winter months making sure that its policies are in sync with town ordinances.
If changes need to be made, members said they would make sure the changes were ready to be reviewed by the Ordinance Review Committee in February or March, before the boating season got started again.
Information from the harbor master, who was not present, included sailing school classes being offered by the Wiscasset Yacht Club, the planned removal of a float with a tank that is filling with water and needs repair, and a discussion of the possibility of having food trucks at the waterfront. If approved by the town, the trucks would probably not be on the waterfront before next year.
The committee also changed its meeting time back to 5 p.m., since the only reason they had bumped it to 5:30 p.m. was to accommodate the former harbor master.
There was a discussion about speaking with MDOT about a place to put a ladder sign for businesses at the piers in the summer months. The idea was to have the businesses pay for an inexpensive sign panel that could be installed and removed as the pier businesses changed. Since the ladder sign would be in the MDOT right of way, the committee agreed to discuss the possibility at the upcoming public advisory meeting.
