This week at the Harbor Theater
“The Wild Robot” - (PG; 1 hour, 42 minutes) - The animated adaptation of the award winning, much-loved children’s novel by Maine resident Peter Brown. The film follows the epic adventure of a shipwrecked robot, ROZZUM, aka Roz (voiced by Lupita Nyong’o), who powers up on an island ready to do her new owners’ tasks. She learns to communicate with the animals on the island and adopts a baby gosling she names Brightbill (Kit Connor) after accidentally destroying his mother’s nest. With the help of a scrappy fox, Fink (Pedro Pascal), Roz makes caring for Brightbill her primary purpose. But being a mother is much more difficult than anything Roz’s programming has prepared her for. Final screenings: Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2 p.m. (OCAP) and Thursday, Oct. 31, 7 p.m.
“Lost on a Mountain in Maine” - (PG; 1 hour, 55 minutes) – This film, produced by Sylvester Stallone, brings to life the harrowing true story of Donn Fendler, a 12-year-old boy who survived nine days lost in Maine’s wilderness in 1939. After getting separated on Mount Katahdin, Donn faced terrifying isolation, navigating 80 miles of rugged terrain alone. His survival captivated the nation, earning him a medal from President Roosevelt. Donn later shared his story with Maine students for years, inspiring generations with his courage and resilience in the wild. Join us on Sunday, Nov. 3, for a captivating lecture, “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Woods? Horror and the Power of Kids,” presented by Caroline Bicks, the Stephen E. King Chair in Literature at the University of Maine. Following the lecture, the film will be screened.
