This week at the Harbor Theater
"The Room Next Door" - (PG13; 1 hour, 47 minutes) - Ingrid and Martha, once inseparable friends during their days at a magazine, took vastly different paths in life. Ingrid (Julianne Moore) became a renowned autofiction novelist, while Martha (Tilda Swinton) pursued the perilous career of a war reporter. Over time, the twists and turns of life pulled them apart. Years later, fate reunites them under extraordinary and unexpectedly tender circumstances, forcing them to confront their shared history and the bond that shaped them. A poignant exploration of friendship, resilience, and reconnection, this story reminds us that even the most divergent paths can lead back to where it all began. Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. (OCAP), Thursday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.
Classic Film Series: "To Kill A Mockingbird" - (1962; 2 hours, 9 minutes) - Based on Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, To Kill a Mockingbird is a poignant drama set in the racially divided South of the 1930s. The story follows young Scout Finch and her brother, Jem, as they navigate childhood and grapple with complex moral issues under the guidance of their father, Atticus Finch (Gregory Peck). Atticus, a principled lawyer, defends Tom Robinson, a Black man falsely accused of assaulting a white woman, exposing the deep prejudices of their small Alabama town. Through Scout’s eyes, the film explores themes of justice, compassion, and the loss of innocence, delivering a powerful message that resonates to this day. Directed by Robert Mulligan, the film was critically acclaimed for its faithful adaptation of Lee’s novel, its emotional depth, and Peck’s career-defining performance.
Threetime Academy Award winner: Best Actor for Gregory Peck, Best Adapted Screenplay for Horton Foote, and Best Art Direction (Black-and-White). "To Kill a Mockingbird" remains an enduring cinematic masterpiece and one of the greatest films of all time. Two shows only at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 15.

"The Remains of the Day" - (1993; PG, 2 hours, 14 minutes) - Merchant Ivory Series selection - Enjoy a light lunch and a classic film from Merchant Ivory’s stunning catalogue of historical literary dramas. Adapted from Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel, it is a period drama, but far from the petticoats and crinolines people associated with the duo. This is sharp look at human foibles, with unforgettable performances from the gold-plated duo, Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson. During the 1930s, James Stevens (Hopkins) serves as a proper English butler to the doltish Lord Darlington (James Fox). Stevens is so dedicated that he forgoes visiting his father on his deathbed in order to serve, and overlooks Darlington's Nazi sympathies and growing anti-Semitism. Twenty years after his employer's death, Stevens tries to reconnect with Miss Kenton (Thompson), Darlington's head housekeeper, and begins to regret his loyalty to his former master. ONE show only: Tuesday, Feb. 18, Luncheon at 12:30 p.m.; film at 1.
