“Snow White finds modern relevance amid the old material.” – Brian Truitt, USA Today
"Black Bag" -( R; 1 hour, 34 minutes) - Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett stars as a seasoned CIA agent whose final assignment spirals into a deadly game of espionage, betrayal, and survival. Known for her precision, control, and cold resolve, her character is a master of the spy world—until a mission in Eastern Europe goes catastrophically wrong. Tasked with recovering a mysterious black bag linked to a rogue nuclear threat, she uncovers a conspiracy that reaches into the highest levels of global intelligence. As allies become enemies and old secrets resurface, she must confront the ghosts of her past while racing against time to prevent an international disaster. Directed by Steven Soderbergh and packed with twists, adrenaline-pumping action, and psychological tension, Black Bag is a gripping, stylish thriller that explores the cost of secrecy and the fine line between duty and deception. With Blanchett delivering a powerhouse performance, this sleek, high-stakes spy drama keeps you guessing until the final frame. Opening Friday, April 25 at 7 p.m., and playing Saturday, April 26 at 7 p.m., Sunday, April 27, at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 30 - 2 p.m. (OCAP) and Thursday, May 1 at 7 p.m.
"Black Bag feels like a return to form for the triple threat filmmaker [Soderbergh] who directed, filmed, and edited together a smart, sexy spy vs. spy thriller fought mostly over dialogue. The result is absolutely delicious, a svelte piece of entertainment that feels like a vintage yarn yet very much represents our own current anxieties, questions of sustaining trust in relationships and high-stake careers.” – Monica Castilo, RogerEbert.com
"Tortilla Soup" - (2001; PG13, 1 hour, 43 minutes) - A food and film selection - Legendary chef Martin Naranjo (Héctor Elizondo) may be losing his sense of taste, but he hasn’t lost his appetite for tradition - or control. Living with his three strong-willed adult daughters, Martin insists on one non-negotiable rule: everyone must show up for Sunday dinner, no matter what. But life, love, and a meddling neighbor (Raquel Welch at her sassiest) start heating things up in and out of the kitchen. With each lovingly prepared dish comes a fresh helping of revelations, romantic surprises, and family shake-ups. As the Naranjo family simmers through their growing pains, one thing becomes clear: the ingredients for happiness are rarely what you expect. Tortilla Soup is a warm, funny, mouthwatering celebration of food, family, and finding your flavor in life. One show only - Monday, April 28: dinner service at 6 p.m., film screening at 6:30 p.m. Space is limited and advance tickets are required! Purchase tickets online at www.boothbaycinema.org
