“Run Lola Run” - (R; 1 hour, 20 minutes) - In this visually and conceptually impressive film, two-bit Berlin criminal Manni (Moritz Bleibtreu) delivers some smuggled loot for his boss, Ronnie (Heino Ferch), but accidentally leaves the 100,000 mark payment in a subway car. Given 20 minutes to come up with the money, he calls his girlfriend, Lola (Franka Potente), who sprints through the streets of the city to try to beg the money out of her bank manager father (Herbert Knaup) and get to Manni before he does something desperate. Final showing Thursday, July 25 at 2 p.m.
An Evening with … New Yorker Cartoonist Liza Donnelly and Historian Heather Cox Richardson, for an intimate conversation between friends about women cartoonists, American history, and Liza’s new documentary film. Liza has been a cartoonist and writer for The New Yorker magazine for 42 years and is a contributor to the New York Times, Washington Post, Ms. magazine, Politico, CBS News, and CNN. She is the innovator of digital visual journalism, covering news and cultural events in real time drawings, speaks around the world, and was a cultural envoy for the U.S. State Department. She will be signing copies of her latest book “Very Funny Ladies,” available for purchase at the event, as well as a special selection 8” x 10” print of one of her cartoons.
Heather is a professor of history at Boston College and an expert on American political and economic history. She is the author of seven books, including the award-winning “How the South Won the Civil War.” Her work has appeared in The Washington Post, New York Times and The Guardian, among other outlets. Her widely read newsletter, “Letters from an American,” synthesizes history and modern political issues. Proceeds from this special event are being split between the Lincoln Theater’s 150th Birthday Fund and Liza’s Women Laughing project. Thursday, July 25 at 7 p.m. Tickets: $50.
“Ghostlight” - (R; 1 hour, 50 minutes) - When melancholic construction worker Dan (Keith Kupferer) finds himself drifting from his wife and daughter, he discovers community and purpose in a local theater’s production of “Romeo and Juliet.” As the drama onstage starts to mirror his own life, he and his family are forced to confront a personal loss. Playing at 2 and 7 p.m. Fri Jul 26; Sat Jul 27 and Wed Jul 31; and Sunday, July 28 at 2 p.m.
Former CIA Director John Brennan at Lincoln Theater - The Carpenter’s Boat Shop welcomes former CIA Director John Brennan. Moderated by former Associated Press reporter Michael Putzel, the session will feature information presented by Brennan as well as audience participation. Mr. Brennan, who served six presidents from Jimmy Carter to Barack Obama during his 34-year government career, is now a senior intelligence and national security analyst for NBC and MSNBC, and advises various private sector companies. Brennan’s family vacationed in Damariscotta and visited Old Orchard Beach. Monday, July 29 at 7 p.m. General admission: $75. Tickets available online at carpentersboatshop.org. All proceeds benefit The Carpenter’s Boat Shop, dedicated to fostering personal growth through boat building, seamanship, and community service.
