Weekend family film deals
Labor Day weekend brings two major family events to Harbor Theater: a Family Free Pass Night for “Harold and the Purple Crayon” on Friday, Aug. 30 only, and the free “Grease” sock hop event on Sunday, Sept. 1.
“Harold and the Purple Crayon” - (PG, 1 hour, 29 minutes) - The story of Harold (Zachary Levi) where inside his book, adventurous Harold can make anything come to life simply by drawing it. After he grows up and draws himself off the book’s pages and into the physical world, Harold finds he has a lot to learn about real life—and that his trusty purple crayon may set off more hilarious hijinks than he thought possible. When the power of unlimited imagination falls into the wrong hands, it will take all of Harold and his friends’ creativity to save both the real world and his own. This is the first film adaptation of the beloved children’s classic that has captivated young readers for decades. The Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library is featuring “Harold” as one of its “Books on Big Screen” for September.
For opening night, Friday, Aug. 30, you can obtain two free passes (one adult and one child) and receive a free large popcorn by going online to boothbaycinema.org to reserve. The free passes are valid only on Friday, Aug. 30, and you need to reserve online in advance. Because it is a holiday, there will also be a special 2 p.m. matinee for “Harold” on Monday, Sept. 2 before school starts the following day! Regular ticket prices apply to all other showtimes: $12 adults, $8 members and children under 18.
“Grease” - (1978; PG, 1 hour, 50 minutes) - Plays one night only on Sunday, Sept. 1, and is free to the entire community! As part of the Harbor Theater’s Free Family Movies series sponsored by the towns of Southport, Boothbay Harbor, and Boothbay, this Labor Day Weekend Bash includes not only a free movie, but games, contests, prizes, and more! Starting at 6 p.m., there will be a 50s costume contest, diner and drive-in photo booths, hula hoops, hopscotch, limbo, and a sock hop! The movie will begin at 7 p.m.
Join all the family movie fun over Labor Day weekend at Harbor Theater before sending the kids back to school! The big weekend also signals a return to the theater’s fall movie showtime schedule the following week: closed Mondays and Tuesdays, 2 p.m. matinees on Wednesdays and Sundays, 7 p.m. shows Thursdays through Saturdays.
