Westport Island Select Board presented Westport Island's Spirit of America Award Monday night, jointly to History Committee Co-Chair and representative Jean Wilhelmsen-Exter and Wright Landing Committee Chair and representative Richard DeVries.

 

Members of both committees donated hundreds of hours of work to refurbish the house, move historical collections, create public programming and develop collections infrastructure to fulfill the vision of Westport Island History Center.

 

Both volunteer committees continue their work to maintain the house and the grounds and to develop the programming and amenities required to make the History Center a welcoming public space to explore the Island's history.

 

Wilhelmsen-Exter recognized all the members of the History Committee, past Chair Jeff Tarbox, and gave special recognition to Mary and Richard Coventry for leading the operational work plan that combined the skills and resources of both committees to complete this project. DeVries recognized all of his committee members for donating their professional skills to refurbish the property and for their ongoing investment of countless hours of work to beautify and maintain it.
