Where's Waldo?
I feel like this photo could be a “Where's Waldo” puzzle. Only to make it more fun, it could be a summer puzzle for a fog/rain day on a rental porch with a cool iced tea and a mosquito zapper racket.
There have been an inordinate number of those unpleasant flying needles this season. All of a sudden, wham, it's blood sucker haven. Just take a leisurely stroll in a fluffy unmowed field around 5 o'clock in the afternoon after a brief shower. Please don't call me for transfusion. Activate your DEET container!
Back to the puzzle. This scene has many interesting parts, in some ways typical of Harbor Life this time of year. We have the American Constitution with passengers mostly on shore in search of the coastal experience. Coffees or ice creams, yes. Foods, yes. Art, clothing, and beer, yes. Public water fountain, hmmmm.
So notice the little cormorant peeking up in the foreground. You don't know this but my telephoto lens can read lips, and it noted, “Tim said I could haul out around 3 o'clock, but the railway is all backed up and the crew is on break. I gotta get my feathers dried out before I sink.”
Bet your telephoto lens can't read lips!
Then there is Illusion. Now, if I were significant, that's where I would hide. Nobody would be looking there. Even though Illusion is a great clue for solving the puzzle. If you look closely you just may see some movement in the pilot house.
Then there's the super secret hiding place, off in the distance, appearing less substantial in size. It is not. Another telephoto slick maneuver compresses the scene and alters reality. That is a very serious piece of equipment, quite stunningly lit at night.
I noticed this without my telephoto lens, rounding Mill Cove employing a glimpse through the bushes by the Carter house. No illusion there.
So, study this image while you are on your front porch, sipping your favorite libation and swatting bugs. You just might find what you're looking for.
