White Christmas sing-a-long Nov. 29
The Waldo Theatre is again kicking-off the holiday season with a fun and festive post-Thanksgiving Community Singalong on Friday, Nov. 29, at 4 pm. The holiday favorite "White Christmas" will be shown on The Waldo’s big screen in glorious, full-screen Technicolor, with subtitles so that everyone can sing along to the wonderful and familiar Irving Berlin score. A host, a costume contest, and free interactive prop bags will ensure that every audience member has a memorable start to this holiday season.
The Waldo has hosted several movie singalongs, and audiences are loving them. This is the second year of the White Christmas screening. So many people left last year asking if it would be an annual event, because they want to bring more family and friends, that Susan Hodder, The Waldo’s ED, was happy to comply. She originally brought the idea to the theatre because her friends and family had been doing it at home for over a decade. Apparently inspired by the riffing of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" and the interactivity of the "Rocky Horror Picture Show," it became a highlight of the holiday season for their families. As odd as that may seem, it turns out that "White Christmas" has the campy dialogue, memorable music, and iconic characters perfectly suited for a wholesome and kitschy holiday kickoff.
“If you’ve never been to a movie singalong at The Waldo, you’re missing out. This is a fun way for the whole family—from kids to grands—to start the holiday season together,” said Susan Hodder, The Waldo’s executive director. “Come share the fun with family, neighbors and friends, sing your heart out, and don’t forget to dress up if you’d like!”
There will be prizes awarded for “Best Adult” and “Best Child” (under 12) costumes. Costume suggestions include dressing as The Haynes Sisters, General Waverly or Emma the housekeeper. Or, for those more creative among us, dress as a WWII soldier, snow, or choreography!
Every audience member will receive free raffle tickets for terrific door prizes donated by local merchants, and refreshments and snacks will be available for purchase.
Adult Tickets are $10 online/$15 at the door. Youth tickets are $5.
