William Connelly
William Connelly, 79, died peacefully on November 29, 2013 while in Canada visiting his daughter and son-in-law. He lived his life with a wonderful sense of humor and the gift of optimism and kindness.
Regarded by many as “a good man,” he would be the first to offer a ride, help with a home renovation, taxes, or treat you to a great meal at a favorite restaurant.
Gifted with a wonderful intellect, after being drafted into the Army and serving in France, he grabbed onto the opportunity of the GI Bill with both hands, and earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Northeastern University. He would go on to become a certified public accountant (CPA) after passing the exam on the first try. He worked for the Federal Power Commission, which later became the U.S. Department of Energy, as an auditor.
Bill went on to earn a master’s degree from Southeastern University in Washington, D.C., while enjoying a successful career working for “Uncle Sam.”
He was able to enjoy a long retirement in Boothbay Harbor, while “playing” in his brother Coley’s pastry shop during the summer seasons.
We all miss his laughter and smile, but take comfort in this quote from Helen Keller:
“All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.”
A private memorial will be planned at a later date. In the meantime, the family requests that if you are inclined, in lieu of flowers, please perform a kindness for someone; and the next time you are enjoying a laugh with friends or family, raise your glass to Bill and remember him fondly.
