Wiscasset airport solar project clears planning board
Monday’s Wiscasset Planning Board Zoom meeting began with a quiet public hearing on the solar facility project at Wiscasset Municipal Airport. Stephen Barrett of Barrett Energy Resources Group again represented MSD Wiscasset LLC. There were no questions during the hearing after a brief presentation from Barrett. The board did a site walk May 18. Monday’s hearing came in advance of a vote on the site plan application during the board’s regular meeting.
At the May 10 board meeting, MSD Wiscasset LLC was asked for missing pieces of information. Monday, Barrett went through how each of these pieces had been addressed, including additional maps and a construction schedule which noted the project would start this fall. The board unanimously approved the application pending all other approvals; additional documents shown at the meeting need to be submitted formally. The project now depends on the approval of a town warrant article June 8 that would allow the selectboard to negotiate a contract with MSD Wiscasset LLC.
Also Monday, the board accepted a site plan application from property owner Charles Applebee and applicant Richard Green as complete. They propose a gravel access road, building and parking pad, and commercial storage garage at 302 Foye Road for their business, Water Quality & Compliance Services, Inc. The area will also need to be cleared to make way for the road. The board determined there was no need for a public hearing and will conduct a site walk at 4:30 p.m. June 3.
The next meeting will be in person at the town office meeting room at 7 p.m. June 14.
