Wiscasset couple funds AED for WCC
To get Wiscasset Community Center an automated external defibrillator (AED), Nancy and Alton Wyman tapped the account they have for awarding annual scholarships in their late son Daniel Leeman’s name. “And we figured (an AED) would be a good way to do something more using a little bit of that money,” Nancy said. The AED was $995, she said.
The Wiscasset couple, longtime volunteers at and users of WCC, got the idea from a Wiscasset Newspaper article on efforts to replace AEDs around town.
Nancy Wyman, a longtime educational technician, retired from Wiscasset Elementary School last June. Then in July she found herself having open heart surgery. “(Needing the surgery) was all a big surprise and it really happened fast,” she said.
Having an AED at WCC is good for them and anyone else, the couple of nearly 39 years said. They encouraged other donations toward AEDs. “This is a small community, and we all use these buildings where these devices are needed,” Nancy said.
Recreation Programmer Chelsea Taylor said the center is grateful for the donation and for all the Wymans do for WCC.
