Wiscasset man charged with aggravated heroin trafficking
A Wiscasset man has been indicted with a Class A crime following a July arrest.
Nathan Brewer, 27, of Wiscasset was originally arrested by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency for what the agency alleges was a months-long operation. Brewer was recently indicted by the Lincoln County Grand Jury.
Brewer was charged with Class A aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, specifically heroin, and illegal importation of drugs, which is a Class C offense.
The charging documents allege that Brewer trafficked more than six grams or 270 baggies of heroin from March to July of this year.
Brewer was arrested July 31 in Wiscasset by MDEA special agent Chad Carleton. Acting through a search warrant for Brewer's Wiscasset residence and person, Carleton detained Brewer as he was exiting the Wiscasset Post Office and searched him.
Carleton reportedly found a soft sunglasses case on Brewer's person. Inside the case there were reportedly a pair of sunglasses, and baggie that Carleton describes as being “folded over itself” which contained several other sandwich baggies that had been sealed with heat. Carleton reportedly found a “good size chunk of black tar heroin” that weighed 10.8 grams.
A field test reportedly confirmed the substance as heroin, and Brewer was arrested.
Inside Brewer's house, officials reportedly found evidence of trafficking and intravenous drug use including a digital scale, cutting agents, packing materials and hypodermic needles.
Class A crimes carry a maximum sentence of up to 30 years in prison and up to a $50,000 fine. Class C crimes carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
