Wiscasset Middle High School to present 'In the Spirit'
Wiscasset Middle High School will present the play called "In the Spirit" by Matthew Carlin. The performances are on November 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. and November 15 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
"In the Spirit" is about a young man, Arthur Miller -- no relation to the writer (7th grader Josh Dualan) -- who inherits an old mansion from his Cousin Herbert. Although Herbert hadn't lived in the house for the past 70 years, he did pay for its upkeep, mostly because the ghosts of his cousins (sophomore Kobe Carrier, sophomore Leah Potter and sophomore Sarah Foley) and Herbert's evil twin, Cousin George (freshman Nick Clark) still reside there. Herbert accrued a great deal of debt while trying to keep up the house, and now with his death, Arthur must decide whether he wants to keep the house or let pushy real estate agent Claudia Morris (sophomore Ayanna Main) sell it to pay off the debts. To add to Arthur’s dilemma is the paranormal psychic Angelica (freshman Arianna Couillard) who coerces Arthur into letting her exorcise the house of its ghosts, who would rather not leave. What ensues is an comedy bordering on farce about family loyalty.
The tech crew will consist of freshman Megan DeLong (sound), sophomore Ryan Medina (lights), and senior Sam Arsenault (stage manager)
This is only the second time students from the middle school have participated in the fall production under director Jean Phillips. Five years ago middle schoolers joined the high school cast in presenting, "Anne of Green Gables." With the success of this year’s performance, Ms. Phillips hopes there will be many more middle schoolers participating. Please plan to attend to support these students and their hard work.
