Wiscasset’s RV revisions move closer to town vote
Ordinance changes Wiscasset voters might face in June about recreational vehicles (RVs) are set for a public hearing at 7 p.m. Monday, March 11 at the town office. The ordinance review committee, which has worked on the changes with Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission Executive Director Emily Rabbe, voted Monday night to advance the draft ordinance changes to the planning board for a hearing, Rabbe said. Later Monday night, the planning board set it.
A summary Rabbe provided ahead of this week’s ORC meeting states that in the flood plains ordinance, the number of days a recreational vehicle can remain on a property in an A or AE Zone would change from 180 to 120 consecutive days, like it is in the shoreland zoning ordinance. Also as proposed, RV rules would state the 120-day maximum, instead of “temporary,” for how long an RV can be on private property; and the town’s definition of “Recreational Vehicle” would be changed to match the definition in the flood plains ordinance.
Another of Rabbe’s emails noted the hearing is needed for the changes to make the June town meeting ballot. The deadline to get items on the warrant is March 27, Rabbe wrote.
Town Manager Dennis Simmons has said the town was running into enforcement issues because campers are not designed for year round stays in Maine.
