Wiscasset welcomes Kidz Closet
Elected officials from the town of Wiscasset officially welcomed another new business on August 28. Kidz Closet, located in the Market Place Plaza at 681 Bath Road, Route 1 in Wiscasset, offers a great selection of new and used clothing, shoes, toys, infant gear and much more in their 4,000-square-foot retail space. Owners Gerald and Angela Achorn relocated the store from Nobleboro at the beginning of this summer.
The Kidz Closet provides quality clothing brands such as Old Navy, Carters, Gymboree and more at affordable prices. Relocation has allowed the store to offer more junior and adult clothing as well as a growing maternity selection offering small to plus sizes.
The store is kid-friendly, with a tent play area and a big fish tank for the kids to enjoy coming soon. For parents' convenience, the store also offer a nursing and diapering station, shopping carts and strollers.
The Kidz Closet offers “consignment with a twist” as Angela Achorn likes to call it. With a traditional consignment, the consigner is not issued credit or cash until their item sells, which can take months in some cases. At The Kidz Closet items are processed and valued depending on condition, brand and other factors. After which the consigner is issued store credit to use in advance of their item being sold.
The Achorns reside in Nobleboro, with their younger children Austin, 17, Alex, 15 and Gavin, 5. Their oldest daughter, Kyley, 19, resides in Auburn where she is attending Central Maine Community College.
Before opening The Kidz Closet, Angela Achorn ran Playtime Pals Daycare from the family’s home on Route 1 for eight years. Gerald Achorn is the proprietor of Achorn & Sons Property Maintenance & Firewood, offering lawn care, clean up, firewood and snowplowing.
The Kidz Closet is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The store is closed on Mondays. For more information, call the store at 882-9920.
