‘The Wizard of Oz' presented by MVHS
This is the musical which most closely resembles the 1939 movie we have all loved for many years, “The Wizard of Oz.” It's hard to believe the original story by L. Frank Baum was written in 1900!
Fast forward to the 21stcentury, landing at Medomak Valley High School where over 50 students — including some middle schoolers — have been spending time in Oz, under the direction and supervision (strange things happen in magical places) of none other than that actor/singer/comedian, star of stage and … um, stage, Nancy Durgin!
Other accomplished show biz contributors in leading roles behind the scenes are Dixie Weissman, assistant director and choreographer; Susan Jones, vocal director; tech director Matthew Kopishke; and costumes by Kerry Watts-Weber.
The performers (the entire cast list is just a tad too long for this show) will be accompanied by MVHS student musicians.
Maestro Aaron Robinson has assisted in some of the musical aspects of the show, but it is the Robinson's family dog, “Pippin,” who will appear in the coveted role of “Toto.”
Show dates and times: Nov 5, 6, 7, 8, 12,13,14 - all evening shows are at 7:30 p.m.; the Sunday, Nov. 8 matinee will be at 2.
All tickets will be sold at the door: $10/adults and $8/17 and under.
So be brave, head for Oz! And, in the words of the ”Cowardly Lion” (a character with many memorable lines): “All right, I'll go in there for Dorothy. Wicked Witch or no Wicked Witch, guards or no guards, I'll tear them apart. I may not come out alive, but I'm going in there.”
The lights go down and the curtain goes up in the Ronald E. Dolloff Auditorium at Medomak Valley High School, located at 320 Manktown Road, Waldoboro.
For more information, call Nancy Durgin : 207-751-0005, and leave a message - she could be in Munchkinland, the Emerald City or picking apples (very quietly and carefully) and might not be able to get right to the phone!
