Woman hospitalized following Route 1 accident in Edgecomb
An 83-year-old Bristol woman was hospitalized on Jan. 7 after her 2005 Dodge Ram Dakota SLT collided with a 2012 International Harvester/Navistar Pepsi truck on Route 1 in Edgecomb. Jean McAlice was taken to Miles Campus of Lincoln Health in Damariscotta and later to the Maine Medical Center in Portland.
On Friday morning, Director of Communications and Public Affairs Matt Paul for the Maine Medical Center reported that McAlice was in fair condition.
The accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. as McAlice was traveling northbound. She attempted a left turn into the Sheepscot River Pottery and her vehicle collided with a southbound Pepsi truck.
According to the accident report, McAlice was turning left into the shop and pulled into the Pepsi truck’s path. McAlice was attempting to retrieve sunglasses from her lap. The Pepsi truck attempted to avoid the Dodge, but the two collided. McAlice failed to yield the right of way, reported Sergeant Brendan Kane of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.
The Dodge sustained damage to its passenger side, windows, and the rear wheel dislodged.The vehicle was above the total damage threhold, according to the report.
The Pepsi truck had damaged to the front passenger side. The truck was towed from scene due to disabling damage. The truck is owned by New Bern Transportation in Augusta. It was driven by Justin Bearce, 32, of Waterville. He appeared to be unharmed following the accident.
Bearce was seen inspecting the damage to both vehicles along with Sergeant Kane.
The Edgecomb Fire Department assisted the sheriff’s department at the scene. Firefighters directed traffic after Route 1 was closed to one lane. Two-lane traffic resumed at 1:21 p.m., according to Kane.
