Woolwich selectmen review nonprofits’ requests
The Woolwich selectboard reviewed requests from non-profit organizations Monday when it continued work on the 2020-21 municipal budget. Voters will take up the requests at the annual town meeting, Wednesday evening, April 29.
The requests were the same as last year’s. And the town got two new requests. Life Flight of Maine, a nonprofit providing critical care and helicopter patient transport, is seeking $768. And Health Equity Alliance (HEAL) is seeking $500. According to its website at mainehealthequity.org, HEAL is a non-profit agency providing direct service and advocating on behalf of Maine's LGBTQ+ community, people living with HIV/AIDS, and people who use drugs.
The other requests include Maine Maritime Museum’s Boat Building Program, $5,000; Sweetser, $3,084; Jesse Albert Dental Clinic, $2,500; Spectrum Generations; $1,740; Midcoast Maine Community Action (CED) $1,400; Bath Area Food Bank, $1,000; Woolwich Historical Society, $1,000, Bath Area Senior Center, $850; Tedford Housing, $700; Bath-Brunswick Big Brothers/Big Sisters, $600; New Hope for Women, $500; and Bath YMCA, $500.
Including the two new requests, the amount for nonprofits and local agencies totals $20,142; the amount raised last year was $18,874.
Patten Free Library in Bath has not submitted its 2020-21 funding request. Town Administrator Kim Dalton said a library representative is scheduled to meet with selectmen at 5 p.m. March 2 to review the request. At last year’s town meeting, voters raised $55,695 for the library.
Town Clerk Chelsea Lane said absentee ballots for the March 3 primary are now available at the town office during regular business hours.
Lane said candidate ballots are only available to those enrolled in a political party. Sample ballots will be posted online once they are received from the state. For more information, visit www.woolwich.us
