‘Wreaths’ convoy moves Woolwich woman to tears
Woolwich’s Edna Kennedy and husband John Kennedy, member of American Legion Post 54, turned out near the Wiscasset municipal building for the Wreaths Across America convoy’s drive through Wiscasset Sunday night. She said in an email afterward, at least 60 people attended, by her husband’s count.
She said the procession came through a little after 6 p.m. with police cars from different parts of the state, truck after truck of wreaths, and vans with the WAA logo, all flashing lights, blowing horns and sirens.
“We waved at all of them. It’s a thrilling experience, also emotional. I teared up at the impact of all these people coming together to honor the dead. There was an honor guard at the entrance to the Two Bridges (Regional) Jail. I thought that was very nice of them.”
The Wiscasset Newspaper’s online sister paper Penobscot Bay Pilot at penbaypilot.com reported the convoy left Washington County Dec. 9 bound for Arlington Cemetery in Washington, D.C. with 11 semi tractor trailer trucks carrying a total of about 200,o00 wreaths.
