YMCA offering Parkinson’s workshop July 22
On Saturday, July 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the YMCA will be hosting an interactive workshop on Parkinson’s disease. The workshop will focus on ways that exercise can be appropriately used to help people with Parkinson’s reduce falls and improve flexibility, balance, and breathing capacity. Along with overall functionality, the training will further address issues of posture, and cognitive/dual tasking abilities.
While this is a “training the trainer” workshop specifically targeted to aid personal trainers, physical therapists and other health and wellness professionals working with Parkinson’s clients, people with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers are also warmly invited to attend and participate, with special pricing for individuals and their caregivers ($69 per person and $109 for both person and caregiver).
The workshop will be led by Karl Sterling, a National Association of Sports Medicine Master Trainer and creator of the Parkinson’s Regeneration Training Program. In an effort to “bridge the gap” between functional life and medical care for people with Parkinson's, Sterling works with and collaborates with leading neurologists from all over the world.
