The Penobscot Bay YMCA is seeking an enthusiastic, qualified team player to become our new Director of Aquatics. This full-time, benefits-eligible position works a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the facility and programs. Preferred, but not required, hours are Monday-Friday from 10A to 6P, with occasional Saturday shifts based on scheduling needs. The Aquatics Director is responsible for the development, safety, oversight, and success of the aquatics programming content, daily operations, budget, pool equipment, and staff. The Aquatics Director responds to occasional on-call needs of the building and program, maintains the cleanliness of the pool area with support from the Facilities team; leads department team meetings and trainings with the Aquatics Coordinator(s). The Aquatics Director reports to the CEO and directly oversees the Aquatics Coordinator(s). The position is located in beautiful Rockport, Maine. Salary: $50,000-60,000 based on qualifications and experience

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA Aquatics programs.

MISSION STATEMENT: Builds effective authentic relationships with members and participants to help support their health and well-being.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
2. Monitors pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations including maintaining records of pool chemical levels and ensuring proper facility/pool maintenance.
3. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance and tracks staff training certifications. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings. (We will train the motivated candidate to lead these trainings)
4. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
5. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, organize and schedule program registrations.
6. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
7. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
8. Works 10 hours on deck per week doing one of the following functions: lifeguarding, teaching Aquatics Fitness classes, or teaching swim lessons.
9. Ensure physical presence at all home swim meets to ensure smooth operations and to support efforts of swim program.
10. Coordinates use of pool facilities for program activities, swim team and events.
11. Assists in fund raising activities, and special events, such as Project Graduation, the Boat Auction, etc.
12. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
13. Work with Y leadership team to ensure staff and community safety and minimize risk.
14. May assist with various committee meetings.
15. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
2. Two to four years of program management experience, preferable in a nonprofit, and at least one year of supervisory experience required.
3. Minimum age requirements may apply; for example, minimum age of 21.
4. Required certifications (must have or be able to obtain within 60 days of hire): YMCA Swim Instructor Certification; Lifeguard Certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
5. Must be able to obtain Certified Pool Operator as well as trainer certifications for all aquatics programs within 6 months of hire, including Lifeguard, CPR, Swim Instructor.
6. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people and committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

· Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations.
· Normal pool and office environment will be subject to temperatures that exceed 80 degrees Fahrenheit with high humidity, noise in excess of normal work environment, some chlorine odors, and exposure to chlorine treated water.
· Regular use of computer keyboard, requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
· Some travel required
· On call for pool/pool staffing issues during operating hours
