William L. Babcock
William Lane Babcock, beloved husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather, died peacefully at the age of 99 on April 25, 2018 at the Clark House in Westwood, Massachusetts with his wife, Victoria Weber Babcock, by his side.
Born in Carthage, Missouri on April 12,1919, Bill was the only child of Leon Warren Babcock and Hazel Irene Lane from Lewiston, Maine. After graduating MIT as a chemical engineer in 1941, Bill went on to work at Hercules for 45 years. He and his first wife, Katherine Faison, had one son, Bill Babcock Jr.
During Bill's working career he managed, constructed and licensed numerous chemical plants around the world. After retirement and being widowed, Bill went on to marry Victoria Weber Gordon in 1989 who brought him a large loving family with six grandchildren who called him Opa.
Victoria and Bill summered in West Boothbay Harbor, Maine, a place near and dear to Bill’s heart. Bill considered himself a true Mainer. He was an avid sailor, enjoyed traveling, reading, woodworking and boat building.
Bill is survived by his wife, Victoria; one son, Bill Babcock Jr.; three stepchildren and spouses, Scott and Debbie Gordon, Karen and Pierre McClenaghan Gordon, Ingrid and Brian Nevins; and six grandchildren, Erik, Greg, and Brian Gordon, Colette Gordon and Andrea and Mark Nevins.
