Fond farewell for Superintendent Wilmot
Outgoing Wiscasset Superintendent of Schools Heather Wilmot on June 12 received the school committee’s appreciation and a local gift to help her remember Wiscasset.
Wilmot opened a bag from BIRCH containing napkins with whales, and a throw pillow with the town’s name and coordinates.
Wilmot’s last day is June 30. Her successor Terry Wood starts the next day. Wood has already performed her first act as superintendent, recommending the hire of Susan Prince as Special Services Director. Prince, too, starts July 1.

Prince was special education director for Regional School Unit 57, based in Waterboro. She has been in special education for 34 years, eight of them as a director.
Other hires announced included BethAnn Monroe, Wiscasset Middle High School Spanish teacher; Michelle Brand, grade four teacher at Wiscasset Elementary School; Jennifer Hembree, K-5 resource room teacher at WES; Alexis Gillis, grade 5 teacher at WES; Katelyn Beedy, grade 1 teacher at WES; Casey Colby, van driver, and Thomas Philbrick, varsity girls’ basketball coach.
WMHS educational technician Rebekah Oliver has resigned.
Anchor Program director Abigail Lourie said the program has four students and a waiting list. More educational technician III’s are needed to bring more students into the program. The program will move into its new facility June 20.
