A home burned on July 16 at 19 Calls Hill Road in Dresden. Owners Rich and Linda Hermans were not at home when the fire broke out around 3:30 p.m., Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy Mark Bridgham said. He said a neighbor called 911, and reported that the fire broke out at the back of the home.
The Hermans' dog Emmy escaped through a dog door when firefighters arrived, but their cat was missing, he said. There were no injuries. Neighbors were on hand to assist the couple, who watched the fight for their home from the lawn across the street.
Fire and emergency crews from Dresden, Wiscasset, Gardiner, Bowdoin, Richmond, Pittston, Woolwich, West Bath, and Alna were on scene. Water to fight the fire was drawn at the Route 27 bridge at Dresden Mills. Tankers backed into the driveway to deliver water into the pool, one by one over a couple of hours.
The fire was particularly hot and smoky, according to firefighters. Smoke could be seen along Middle Road for about a mile. Bridgham said mopping up operations were expected to go on for some time. The Fire Marshal was expected Tuesday. Bridgham did not expect a comment from Dresden Fire Chief Steve Lilly until after the Marshal’s inspection.
