Nancy S. Cheever
Mrs. Nancy Swasey Cheever, of Yarmouth, Maine, born on July 2, 1931 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to the late Ruth Small Swasey and the late Richard Lowell Swasey, passed away peacefully at age 87 on Aug. 22, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Portland. Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Warren R. Cheever.
Nancy graduated from Braintree High School in 1949 and attended the New England School of Art in Boston, Massachusetts where she met her first husband Herbert Charles Maynard. She was an accomplished artist starting with enamels on copper and later acrylics. Her enamel and acrylic paintings are in private and corporate collections throughout the United States, Europe and Japan.
Nancy was predeceased by her sons, Herbert Charles Maynard Jr. and Keith Richard Maynard; and sister, Imogene Swasey Thompson.
Nancy loved her family and delighted in special gatherings where everyone was together. She is survived by her son, Wayne Swasey Maynard and wife Diana; daughter, Sandra Ruth Maynard; stepdaughter, Kerrin Cheever Erhard and husband Lincoln; her grandchildren, Philip Maynard and wife Meagan, Steven Maynard and wife Brittney, Keith Maynard and wife Lee, Joya Maynard and partner Scott Porter, Shale Maynard and wife Samantha, Blake Erhard, and Mason Erhard; her great-grandchildren, Gianna, Clare, Liayla, Aurora Grey, Kaylin, and Waylin Maynard, and Olivia Porter; nieces, Judy Hancock and Linda McCue; and nephew, Fred Thompson.
A celebration of life will be private at a later date. Demers-Desmond Funeral Home, 34 Cushing Street, Brunswick is handling arrangements.
