Paul Sullivan is the next Talking Music in Maine guest
Paul Sullivan — award-winning pianist, composer and recording artist — will be the next special guest at Damariscotta’s Lincoln Theater for Talking Music in Maine: Intimate Conversations on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
A member of the Paul Winter Consort, Sullivan has toured across the globe including Europe, the Middle East, Central America, and Asia. Sullivan has performed among the dunes of the Negev Desert, in Leonard Bernstein’s living room, on Marian McPartland’s “Piano Jazz”, toured via the Trans Siberian Railway, and has also performed with some of the most legendary orchestras, such as the Philadelphia Orchestra with Eugene Ormandy, and the Boston Pops with both Arthur Fiedler and Keith Lockhart.
He has worked in some of New York’s most prestigious jazz clubs, including Sweet Basil, The Village Vanguard, and Bradley’s; playing with a wide variety of masters from Benny Goodman to Tommy Flanagan, as well as Red Mitchell, Lou Donaldson, George Mraz, Gerry Hemingway, and many other luminaries. His 18 CDs have sold over 300 thousand copies and have won three Indie Awards. He received a Grammy Award for his work on the Paul Winter Consort CD, “Silver Solstice.”
As a musical director, Sullivan has served as pianist/conductor for many Off-Broadway and Broadway shows, including “Nine” (which won a Tony Award for Best Musical), “Cats,” “A Chorus Line,” “Rags,” and a cabaret with comedian Lewis Black. He has also written two musicals, including “The Last Ferryman” for which he wrote both the music and lyrics.
Host Aaron Robinson returns for another fascinating conversation offered for free by Lincoln Theater with thanks to the kind sponsorship of Horch Roofing.
