LA international student to talk about life in Turkey
On Wednesday, October 10 at 10 a.m., Skidompha Library and Chats with Champions will have as its guest speaker, Deha Ay, who is a 17-year-old international student at Lincoln Academy. He was born in Adana, Turkey, and has lived in many different cities all over his country. He has a deep pride for his culture and his home. This is his third year at Lincoln and he is currently a senior. The Chat will take place in the Library’s Porter Meeting Hall. Please allow time for parking.
Deha has given presentations on Turkey to local elementary and middle schools. In this upcoming Chat he will be showing a slideshow that he created on the culture, history, politics, music, and people of Turkey and will welcome questions on those and any other topics people may be interested in. He would also be glad to talk about what it is like to be an international teenager living in a small town in rural Maine.
Lincoln Academy's boarding program has students from 20 countries, including China, Vietnam, Japan, Korea, Spain, Turkey, Czech Republic, Uzbekistan, and from the United States. Eighty-four residential students live in two dormitories on campus: the Hall House, renovated from a classroom building in 2013, and a new dormitory built in 2015. The largest single group is from China.
Lincoln Academy has been educating students for over 200 years and is the fourth oldest secondary school in Maine.
Chats with Champions is a free community offering from your national award-winning Skidompha Library and is sponsored by Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shop. Recordings of many previous Chats are available on Skidompha Library's YouTube.com page.
