WMHS students raising funds for winter Quebec trip
Wiscasset Middle High School students are raising money to help fund a visit to Quebec City in February. French teacher Irene Marchenay will lead the trip the school committee unanimously approved Tuesday evening, Nov. 13.
Marchenay said 11 of her 12 French III students have expressed an interest in the trip. “They’ve been a fantastic group to work with. They’re all very motivated to raise the funds needed.”
Marchenay added her group would be traveling with students from Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham if their school board approves the trip. A class from Freeport High School has also expressed an interest.
Montreal-based Prometour Educational Tours is handling all the arrangements including bus transportation and accommodations at the Comfort Inn & Suites Saint-Nicolas near the city’s Centre Commercial.
The four-day trip from Feb. 28 to March 3 includes a stroll down Rue Saint-Joseph and an authentic Quebecois dinner at the restaurant Cuisine Là Là. Also on the itinerary are trips to the Hôtel de Glace, made almost entirely of ice and snow, and Musée de la Civilisation. Students will also get to experience a dog sled ride through the Canadian woods.
Other than a passport, Marchenay said all students will need is spending money.
WMHS students are planning an indoor garage sale in the cafeteria in December and a bake sale during parent-teacher conferences. They’ll also be collecting bottle deposit donations, and selling AVON products and holiday wreaths and centerpieces.
To donate, contact WMHS.
Marchenay said students attending the Quebec trip would miss two days of school. They were told they were responsible for making up any schoolwork they missed.
