Betsy Headley, photographer, artist and poet, resides in Swanville. Wildlife has always been a passion, but in recent years, birds have captured her heart.

Identifying and photographing Maine’s rich avian diversity has been an extraordinary journey. Celebrating Maine Birds – Photography by Betsy Headley is on exhibit March and April 2019 at Southport Memorial Library. Coastal, inland, lake and ocean birds reveal their beauty and personalities.

Headley’s photography and poetry have appeared in “Off the Coast” and the “Aurorean.”  Headley’s first book of poetry, “Something Is Always Left” (Maine Authors Publishing in Thomaston), was released in 2017. Headley will present a reading/signing at Southport Memorial Library on March 30, at 1:30 p.m., light refreshments provided.

Headley earned a BA degree in anthropology and fine arts from Metropolitan State College in Denver Colorado, where she exhibited her work in juried art festivals and one-person shows.

Teaching conversational English in Tianyang China 2003-04 and Nagoya Japan 2007-09 was a strong influence on Betsy’s creative expression. During that period, she studied Japanese calligraphy, and realized she would always be a beginner.
