Julia S. Nason
Julia S. Nason passed away peacefully on Windjammer Day, June 26, 2019.
Judy was born on Sept. 12, 1926; one of five children born to Alden and Hazel (Alley) Swett. She lived her whole life in Boothbay Harbor, growing up and raising her family on her beloved Hodgdon Cove.
She met the love of her life, Gordon Nason, while she was in high school. She graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School in 1944, and married her love the very next day. They both worked for Central Maine Power, and while Gordon continued on with them until retirement, Judy went on to work in several jobs. She worked as manager of the Oak Grove Hotel and store on Squirrel Island, then executive secretary of the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce. She loved working with all the local businesses, and Windjammer Days were her favorite event. Windjammer Days were started by the Chamber board when she was there, and she loved to see it grow each year with the Budweiser Clydesdales, bands from all over, including Canada, and the crowning jewel – the Victory Chimes sailing into the harbor. She went on to manage the Tugboat Inn and finally Key Bank when it was then called Depositors Trust.
She was very active in the Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women and was a fixture of the “Cookie Walk” at their fairs. Judy loved her gardens, and loved walking with friends in the morning before work. She enjoyed the coffee hour gathering with “the girls” after exercise group at the YMCA. Breakfast at Brown Brothers was the highlight of many a summer Saturday morning. But the love above all was saved for her great grandsons, Landyn, Jaxson, Aldyn and new baby Luke.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon; her parents, Alden and Hazel Swett; her brothers, Richard, Byron and Edward Swett; her sister, Alice Reed; and niece, Bonnie McKenney.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Nason) Fallon and husband Bob; granddaughter, Julia Fallon Peters and sons Landyn and Aldyn; grandson, Robert Fallon, his wife Nicole and their sons Jaxson and Luke; her “special niece” Dorinda Webster and husband Phillip, and several other nieces and nephews. Wendy Wood – her “good daughter” – and special friends, Eleanor Alley and husband Steve, she also considered her family.
A memorial service will be held at the Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church on Townsend Avenue on Saturday, July 13 at 2 p.m. A reception will immediately follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Judy’s name to the Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 641, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538
