Harold R. Fairfield
Harold Roscoe Fairfield, 77, of Yarmouth, Maine and Clearwater, Florida died July 27, 2019 at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts due to heart complications. He had been an LVAD heart pump recipient in 2014.
Born May 2, 1942 in Radford, Virginia, he was the first of eight children of Philip and Louise Wright Fairfield. He graduated in 1960 from Kennebunk High School and went on to attend Bryant and Stratton School of Business in Boston where he received his associate’s degree.
He served in the military and rose to the rank of sergeant in the Army. He was employed for 30 years at USF&G as an insurance auditor and founded the Maine Auditors Association. Among the clubs with which he was affiliated were the Yarmouth Jaycees, a past officer in the Casco Bay Power Squadron, a member of the Southport Island Yacht Club, and the Yarmouth Amvets until his illness.
In later years he participated in the role of a hunter safety instructor in Maine. He loved boating in Maine waters including in Linekin Bay and Boothbay Harbor. His other hobbies included photography and building model boats and planes. He was a Civil War buff, having visited many battle fields, and an accomplished gunsmith. He also liked the Maine woods and was fortunate to go on three moose hunts with close friends.
Survivors include his wife, Francesca Leonard Fairfield; son, Michael Leonard; four brothers, Edward and his wife Martha, James and his wife Penny, Kenneth and wife Margery, and John with his partner Edski; one sister BettyLou Townsend and husband Glenn from Boothbay Harbor; one brother-in-law, Chris Gould; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
He was predeceased by Margery Fairfield Gould and Joseph Fairfield.
He loved animals and donations may be made to the Lincoln County Animal Refuge League or shelter of your choice.
