LCCT auditions for ‘The Odd Couple’
LCCT, the resident theater company of Damariscotta’s Lincoln Theater, will hold auditions for their upcoming season on Wednesday, Sept. 4 and Friday, Sept. 6 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Skidompha Library’s Porter Hall. People auditioning are asked to use the Elm Street entrance to the library.
The fall will kick off with a fully staged production of Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple- the Female Version” with performances the weekend of Nov. 14 through 17. Unger and Madison are at it again! Florence Unger and Olive Madison, that is, in Neil Simon's hilarious contemporary comic classic. Instead of the poker party that begins the original version, Ms. Madison has invited the girls over for an evening of Trivial Pursuit. The Pidgeon sisters have been replaced by the two Constanzuela brothers. But the hilarity remains the same. (Character breakdown below).
We are currently considering either "The Addams Family, the Musical,” or "Mamma Mia” for our semi-staged production. Performances for the musical are the weekend of April 17, 18 and 19. We will be seeking singers for principal roles and to fill out our chorus. The production is performed with full orchestra. As in past years the chorus meets each Sunday afternoon starting in mid-January and involves only minimal memorization (tell that to the dancing nuns from last year’s production of "Sister Act” and they may laugh out loud.)
"The Addams Family” is a musical comedy with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. The show is based upon The Addams Family characters created by Charles Addams in his single-panel gag cartoons, which depict a ghoulish American family with an affinity for all things macabre.
"Mamma Mia”! is a jukebox musical written by British playwright Catherine Johnson, based on the songs of ABBA composed by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, former members of the band. The title of the musical is taken from the group's 1975 chart-topper "Mamma Mia.”
Actors interested in being considered for the musical are asked to bring sheet music to the auditions. An accompanist will be provided. Actors interested in "The Odd Couple” may bring a monologue or will be able to read from the script. Questions can be emailed to lcctseason@gmail.com.
“Odd Couple” lead characters Olive Madison and Florence “Flo” Unger have been cast. The following are still being sought::
Sylvie (supporting): Female - desperately trying to stop smoking, and so sucks on lollipops or chews gum; she can get irritated with her friends, but has a good sense of humor, especially about her husband; and, yes, she is pregnant in the last scene.
Renee (supporting): Female - Sylvie's best friend, can be very plain-spoken, especially when she points out Olive's failings as a hostess--and then Flo's; she is single and dating a doctor.
Vera (supporting): Female - very sweet, very nice, somewhat spacey, and, although quite smart, is often a step or two behind her friends; she’s very funny, but doesn't realize it.
Mickey (supporting): Female - a police officer, who is down-to-earth, plain-talking, and has a good understanding of people; she tries very hard to be in control of all situation.
Manolo Costazuela (supporting): Male - handsome, very well-groomed, and Spanish with a Castilian accent; he is every woman's dream date and showers both Olive and Flo with attention; he must have good comic timing, as he gets very emotional; he is sensitive and appreciates Florence's sensitivity.
Jesus Costazuela (supporting): Male, 18+ - Manolo’s younger brother; also very handsome, well-groomed, excellent posture, very romantic; he also gets very emotional and truly appreciates Florence.
