National Theatre Live is bringing the best of British theatre to the big screen at Damariscotta’s Lincoln Theater. Join audiences around the world for the hilarious, award-winning, one-woman show “Fleabag” as well as Shakespeare’s most famous romantic comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream, ” both playing in October. With state-of-the-art filming techniques, tailored to every play, NT Live brings you each performance as it happens and in all its glory. Come see the close-ups that capture every flicker of emotion, along with the sweeping wide shots of the stage on the Lincoln Theater’s big screen.
Directed by Vicky Jones, “Fleabag” follows one woman in the aftermath of a tragedy as she struggles to come to terms with her new reality, all the while maintaining her personal relationships and her guinea pig-themed cafe. The play that inspired the hit BBC TV series, which recently won three Emmy Awards, is a rip-roaring look at some sort of woman living her sort of life. This one-woman show is written and performed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, also known for the BBC American thriller series Killing Eve. In “Fleabag” Waller-Bridge portrays an oversexed, grieving, disaster-attracting Londoner known only as “Fleabag” who finds herself with nothing to lose. This award-winning production has ended its sold out runs in London’s West End and New York, leaving the big screen the only way to experience the hilarious original stage play. Don’t miss your chance to see it right here at the Lincoln Theater, Saturday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m.
Playing Thursday, Oct. 17 at 2 and 7 p.m. is the Shakespeare classic “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, his most famous romantic comedy captured live from the Bridge Theatre in London. Complete with trapezes and Cirque du Soleil acrobats, the production fills the London theatre bringing out both the darkness and wonder of this multifaceted play. Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Oliver Chris (Green Wing, NT Live: Young Marx), David Moorst (NT Live: Allelujah!) and Hammed Animashaun (The Barber Shop Chronicles) lead the cast as Titania, Oberon, Puck and Bottom. Directed by two-time Tony winner Nicholas Hytner, this production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream will build on the success of his immersive staging of Julius Caesar (NT Live 2018). The Bridge Theatre will become a forest – a dream world of flying fairies, contagious fogs and moonlight revels, surrounded by a roving audience following the action on foot. ‘The course of true love never did run smooth.’
