Extradition ordered for Warren man arrested in Wiscasset theft case
The District VI District Attorney’s office has filed extradition orders for Robert G. Steiner, 51, of Warren, who was arrested Dec. 10 in Grosse Point, Michigan, on two charges of Class B Theft.
Steiner has not yet been returned to Maine. The extradition order, which is a nationwide order, was signed Dec. 16.
Wiscasset Police Chief Larry Hesseltine said that to his understanding, Wiscasset must take custody of the two vehicles taken from Wiscasset Ford after Steiner allegedly wrote checks on a frozen bank account, as evidence until Steiner’s trial. Hesseltine said one was recovered from a Northport woman who said Steiner gave her the vehicle as a gift; it was being stored in the town parking lot, he said. The other vehicle from the Wiscasset Ford incident was still in Michigan, Hesseltine said. A third vehicle from a similar Knox County theft was recovered at the Portland Jetport.
