In response to the recent rabid fox attacks in the city of Bath, Midcoast Humane is hosting a low-cost emergency rabies clinic for cats and dogs at the Train Depot on Wednesday, March 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Services offered will include rabies vaccines ($10) and microchipping ($25).

Although rabies is a fatal disease, it is completely preventable with the proper vaccinations. Domestic animals that have the highest risk of contracting rabies are those that come into contact with wild animals, and more cats contract rabies than any other domestic animal. “Given the recent rabies outbreak in Bath, it is more important than ever for pet owners to get their pets vaccinated against the disease,” stated Dr. Alison Pare, Medical Director for Midcoast Humane.

Mary P. Sundeen, president of Midcoast Humane commented, “Many individuals simply cannot afford to take their pets to the vet for rabies vaccinations making Midcoast Humane’s mobile clinics a crucial community resource. Our low-cost vaccination program directly addresses an unmet need in the communities we serve and provides for improved health and wellness in hundreds of animals each year.”

The public is welcome and no appointment is necessary. Anyone who is in line by noon will be served. For the safety of the animals, Midcoast Humane asks that dogs are brought on leashes and cats in carriers. If available, please bring your pet’s most recent rabies vaccination certificate. This clinic is not intended to replace the valuable and ongoing relationship between pet owners and their veterinarians, which is crucial to helping pets live their healthiest lives.
