Wiscasset executive session yields no decisions
The Wiscasset Select Board convened remotely for a 40-minute executive session Wednesday evening, April 15 to discuss personnel matters.
Chairman Judy Colby called the teleconference meeting to order at 5:04 p.m. and entertained a motion to enter into executive session pursuant to 1 MRSA-405-(6-A). The board returned to public session at 5:44 and took no action.
Earlier in the day, Colby told the Wiscasset Newspaper the town was continuing with social distancing recommendations recommended by the state. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the board was putting on hold its search for a town manager. The board has also stopped work on the 2020-2021 budget, cancelling the planned June 9 town meeting and election.
“John O’Connell has offered to stay on as town manager beyond June until the budget is finalized,” she added. Colby didn’t know when work on the budget might resume. “For now, we’ll continue operating as we have been.” Colby’s, Ben Rines Jr.’s and Kim Andersson’s terms will continue until an election is held.
The initial state of emergency would have expired April 15, but Gov. Janet Mills extended it another 30 days through May 15.
The transfer station is again accepting brush during its advertised open hours. The change was announced in an April 15 email from O’Connell. “We are making progress, but it will still be some time before we can provide our full range of services,” stated O’Connell. “Please be patient and take all the social distancing and other precautions recommended by Maine’s Center for Disease Control.”
The board’s next regular meeting is at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21.
