Westport Island eyes possible return to face to face
In their latest UberConference call, Westport Island selectmen on Monday mulled a possible June return to in-person meetings, with COVID-19 precautions.
First Selectman George Richardson said up to 10 people can be at a meeting if they wear masks and are distanced. Selectmen said the office they normally meet in wouldn’t be big enough. “You could have it out in the big room,” Richardson said. “There’d be enough room out there.”
“My two cents’ worth would be to continue on with this type of a meeting. It does work,” Second Selectman Gerald Bodmer said.
“I don’t care, either one,” Third Selectman Ross Norton said. Members will think about it.
Then Norton asked if this meant the board will be looking at reopening the town office to the public. Richardson responded, the staff “have got some questions about how to do things and they’re going to get back to us, on maybe redoing things a little bit. I’ll let them come up with the information and give it to us ...”
Also Monday, selectmen agreed to put on the town meeting warrant a question from the broadband committee. The article Richardson said Jason Kates provided, and Richardson read aloud, proposes raising and appropriating $20,000 for costs “related to expanding broadband internet access to all of Westport Island,” including consulting fees and other costs to apply for state or federal grants.
The board will not meet Monday, Memorial Day, May 25. Check westportisland.us for the next meeting date.
