May 21 update: New COVID-19 cases in Lincoln, Waldo counties
AUGUSTA — The Maine CDC has updated its list, May 21, of COVID-19 cases in the state of Maine.
Today, there are 1,877 confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases across the state, including 1,678 confirmed cases and 199 probable cases.
Across the state, 1,145 people have recovered from COVID-19, while 73 people have died. The number of people hospitalized, at some point during their illness, across the state stands at 235.
Looking at hospital COVID-19 data, there are currently 41 hospitalized, including 21 in critical care and 12 on a ventilator. There are 165 available critical care beds out of 387 total and 252 available ventilators of 318 total and 439 alternative ventilators.
By sex, 967 females have tested positive in the state and 910 males have tested positive.

The below cases represents the number of full-time Maine residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the Maine CDC.
“This is likely an underrepresentation of the true number of cases in Maine since not all individuals are being tested,” the Maine CDC says. “For individuals not considered to be at high risk, medical providers are currently advised to diagnose COVID-19 based on symptoms.”
