Westport Island talks parking, honors comp plan panel
Ferry Landing in Westport Island may soon have signs against parking on the grass; but selectmen don’t plan to threaten towing. They said Monday night, the town does not have an ordinance for it.
“I’m not sure we could do that legally,” First Selectman George Richardson said about towing, or having the signs mention it. That was part of resident Richard DeVries’ proposed wording, Richardson said in the board’s UberConference call meeting.
He said DeVries also proposed selectmen sign the signs. “Legally I don’t feel that we should sign it as selectmen and I’ve told Richard that, too.” Richardson and the other member on the call, Third Selectman Ross Norton, agreed DeVries could make signs that say: “Do not park on the grass.”
The board dedicated the annual town report to the comprehensive plan committee, approved photos of the committee for the cover, and picked the committee to receive this year’s Spirit of America award.
Responding to a question from Jeff Tarbox, Richardson said the set up for town meeting July 18 was still being discussed. “We’re working on it,” he added.
